Did someone say handrolls? Let’s go! The Bar – Handrolls by Seabutter only has bar seating, with a hook under the table to hang your coats and bags. There’s actually a lot of options on the menu for being a handroll spot. You could get one of their handroll sets, appetizers, donburi, sashimi and dessert. There is also a long list of Seabutter’s Original Handrolls which was very tempting!
At the top of the menu is the “Taste of the Bar” that comes with miso soup or sunomono salad, 4 handrolls (spicy tuna crunch, scallop, salmon truffle, HYE – minced yellowtail belly, sesame oil, minced truffle, kizami wasabi, lava sea salt) and a shot of house sake or green team for $35. If I weren’t so hungry, I would have tried this set, but instead, I got the 6-handroll set which came with salmon, blue crab, spicy tuna, amberjack, negitoro, and scallop handrolls for $33.

Salmon Handroll – The Salmon Handroll came out first. I liked how the pieces of salmon were so big! There was also a generous amount of fresh fish in the handroll, so every bite was very satisfying.
Spicy Tuna Handroll – I was not a fan of the Spicy Tuna Handroll at all. The texture of the spicy tuna was not what I was expecting. It almost tasted like I could feel every little piece of the spicy tuna on its own. The flavor for this roll was also a bit lacking.
Negitoro Handroll – The Negitoro Handroll was delicious. The negitoro was soft and just melted in my mouth. So tasty!
Scallops Handroll – I was quite impressed with the Scallops Handroll. Usually, this is a handroll that I would just be like, yeah it was good, but this Scallops Handroll made me look at it twice.
Amberjack Handroll – I couldn’t not smile when I saw this roll – look at the rice that’s sticking out on the side of the seaweed! The staff noticed the look on my face and asked me if anything was wrong. Nothing, nothing at all. I could definitely taste the yuzu with the amberjack. I liked this roll!
Blue Crab Handroll – Last but not least, the Blue Crab Handroll! I would say my expectation for the Blue Crab Handroll was higher and while this handroll was pretty good, it wasn’t as good as the one I’ve had at Sugarfish.
From this meal, I liked the negitoro, scallop, salmon, amberjack, and blue crab, then at the very bottom, the spicy tuna. I’d like to try some of the other handrolls next time. I’d probably choose either the Taste of the Bar, or order some rolls a la carte!
