This place is popping! I arrived at P.P. Pop for a late lunch at 1:15pm, and there was a long line outside. You walk inside to check in first, and they will give you the menu with your number on it. It’s a paper menu where you write down the quantity you want for each dish. The restaurant is not too big inside, and especially since there was a large party ahead of us, the wait was even longer.
I was really craving some hot and sour soup, but unfortunately it’s not on the menu. I also made sure to look through the entire menu before writing anything down. Here’s what we ended up ordering!
Popcorn Chicken 鹽酥雞 – The popcorn chicken was a larger portion that I had expected. I wish the pieces were a bit bigger and with more chicken than flour. With medium spicy, it was actually pretty spicy! Next time I would try it with mild.

Pan Fried Pork Bao 上海生煎包 – The pan fried pork bao was tasty! I definitely should have eaten it sooner when the juice inside was extra hot, but it was still pretty hot when I bit into it. I made sure to hold my spoon under to catch any juice that squirted out from the other end.

Fujian Style Fried Vermicelli 福建炒米粉 – I liked the texture of the vermicelli in this dish. I would have liked it even more if there was just a bit more ingredients in it.

House Special Beef Noodle Soup 招牌紅燒牛肉麵 – I typically don’t end up liking the beef noodle soups I order, but I loved this beef noodle soup! When the dish arrived, I was a bit hesitant at first because of how oily it looked, but after the first bite, yum! The beef was so tender, but it wasn’t so soft that it was breaking apart. I also liked the thickness of the beef – it wasn’t too thin where you feel like you’re not really biting into anything, but also not too thick that you’re struggling with it. The noodles were also delicious, and the soup…I drank every bit of it! I’d definitely get this dish again next time.

Aside from having to wait for a table and wait quite some time for the food to come out, I really enjoyed this place! I would try to come on a less busy day or time, but I can’t wait to have their House Special Beef Noodle Soup again. I also want to try their beef rolls and dumplings next time. Have you been?
