It’s time for pumpkin painting again! After my first pumpkin painting experience back in 2021, I made sure to apply some of the things I learned from last time.
This year, I wanted to paint a cute pumpkin that uses the whole pumpkin as the face and body. I was debating between Totoro and Doraemon, and ultimately decided on Totoro! I tried choosing a pumpkin that was just slightly taller.

I began by painting the entire pumpkin light gray. Last time, I started off with drawing the characters first and struggled with painting the background towards the end. I made sure to put enough paint so that the orange pumpkin didn’t show through the paint.

I waited and kept fanning my pumpkin until the first layer of paint dried. Next, I added a darker gray on top to cover most of the pumpkin and waited for it to dry again. I wanted to save the lighter gray for the belly. I also drew in the white part of the eyes to see if my spacing is fine or if I needed to repaint anything.

Finally, I finished up the eyes, added in the face and markings on the belly, and then painted the stem green to represent a leaf! Of course, I still added a leaf on top to make it more obvious. Here’s the final product:

I really liked the way my pumpkin turned out this year!
