It’s Time to Make Lunch Count!

National Make Lunch Count Day is coming up on April 13! There are always so many reasons for us to stay at our desks during lunch – there’s too much work, there’s a lunch meeting, there’s a brown bag presentation – and the excuses are endless. Eating your lunch typically only takes around 15-20 minutes, which gives you another 40 minutes for a nice break. With an hour for lunch, how can you make lunch count?

  • Take a walk by yourself – This is one of the best times of the day, and a great way to get some steps! You can just enjoy yourself, walk at your own pace, and take in everything around you. Snap a few photos of landmarks you pass by to document all the places you visit during lunch!
  • Run errands with your colleague – You’d be surprised at how much fun this can be. Not only can you enjoy a nice conversation, but you will also go to places you wouldn’t necessarily have gone to on your own! Whether it is delivering goodies, picking up mail, choosing glasses, or even shopping for clothes at the store nearby, this will be an adventure!
  • Bring back a treat for your coworkers – Who wouldn’t want boba delivered to their cubicle? Not everyone likes going for a walk, but you can give yourself a reason to treat yourself if someone else in your office wants a treat too! Collect orders around the office and go on a mission to safely bring back those yummy treats!
  • Hang out with the office pet – If there’s a puppy in the office, ask to take it for a walk! Not only do you get a furry friend to walk with, but you’ll also be receiving a lot of nice compliments…for the puppy! Just make sure you’ll be able to keep the pet safe before you decide to take them out.
  • Climb the stairs – There’s bound to be a set of stairs nearby. Put on your tennis shoes and time how long it takes to get from the bottom floor to your office floor. It would be a nice challenge and a way to take your mind off of work!
  • Explore the surrounding buildings – If there are buildings open to the public, go in and check them out! Find the best-looking lobby, the secret coffee shops, and the best places to take a nap. Create a list of your findings and share it with your colleagues (or not)!
  • Discover new foods and try new restaurants – Schedule a lunch with a friend so you can find your favorite restaurant in the area! Take turns choosing a place you haven’t tried yet to expand your options when someone comes for a visit!
