It’s (Not) The Weekend! Find Me In Sacramento

I am back in Sacramento! This year, I did less exploring, more events, and still had a great time. Will this be an annual trip?

Tuesday

9:10am

It’s been so long since I have flown Delta. The TSA line was so long (and inefficient). It also took quite some time to board because the staff kept getting distracted! It was assigned seating, so I didn’t have to worry about finding a seat – I just had to hope there was space in the overhead bin for my suitcase! My window seat was in the second to the last row…and I was sitting in front of an excited toddler.

10:40am

After a 58 minute flight, I landed in SMF! The terminal was so close to the Uber lot. They must have finished the construction from my last visit because it looks so much nicer! The Uber driver’s license plate was one letter off from the app…and his Tesla was quite worn out and had duct tape all over.

11:00am

I got to the hotel a bit early. I was ready to answer the question, do you have any room preference? but the only room that was available was a double bed. I had originally booked a King bed, but that’s okay. I can use one bed for working and one bed for sleeping. The staff gave me one complimentary bottle of water.

My room was on the fourth floor. It was pretty spacious. As I walked in, there was a built-in closet immediately on the right. Walking under the arch, there was another closet on the left, which included a fridge and a safe. This closet also had a mirror. Facing the bed was another mirror. On the small table, there were two bottles of water, $4 each. The restroom was big and there was a lot of space in the shower too. They should consider replacing the toilet seat though.

Even though the room had three big mirrors, I couldn’t use any of them to see my full outfit, which was unfortunate. The mirrors and beds were also not positioned in the best spot for sleeping. The air conditioning was slightly annoying – it sounded like a constantly vibrating phone.

11:15am

After dropping off my bags, it was time to head to lunch. On the way, I watched the light rail pass by and walked by the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament. It was a hot day.

11:30am

I made it to Chef Burma! I didn’t realize it was pretty early for lunch and was a bit concerned when I saw how empty it was. When it got closer to noon, more and more people started coming for lunch. It was pretty hard to decide what to order – there were so many options and everything sounded so good! We ended up getting an appetizer and two dishes to share. We also had to get an order of Jasmine Rice since the dishes didn’t come with rice. Overall, this was a tasty meal.

Salt & Pepper Calamari – crispy fried calamari seasoned with salt and pepper served with house fish sauce – I liked how this did not have too much batter. The fish sauce was good – I definitely liked it more than the chili sauce they gave us (it was very spicy!).
Basil Chili Beef – beef, ginger, garlic, onion, basil, jalapenos, chili flakes, cumin, mustard seeds – I liked the texture of this dish, but was not a fan of the flavor.
Sesame Beef – battered beef tossed with a sweet & tangy sauce, sesame seeds, orange slices – I liked the flavor of this dish, but was not a fan of the texture. This was very good with rice.

1:00pm

Back at the hotel. I chose a bed for studying.

4:00pm

It’s time for happy hour at Ten Ten Room! I walked right by the location and had to backtrack – it was a bit hidden. The space inside was also a bit tight.

Moscow Mule

5:15pm

Time for games at Coin-Op Game Room! There was also unlimited pizza and wings, but it was messy to eat. I thought there would be more games (like Chuck-E. Cheese) but there was still a good variety! I checked out the Pinball machine, Skee-ball, Pac-Man, Guitar Hero, Step Mania X, Air Hockey, and Pool. Air Hockey was a very intense game – but I won. I wish we had more time at the game room!

7:15pm

Did someone say boba? I went to Rose Lounge for boba and got a Black Sugar Boba Latte. I wasn’t able to get a sugar level less than 75%, but this drink was so good. I was not expecting the boba to be so soft. I am glad I got to squeeze in this quick hangout for a catch-up!

8:45pm

Some more studying and resting at the hotel.

Wednesday

7:00am

I dropped off my bags at the front desk and checked out, since I wouldn’t be back again until later in the day.

7:30am

Breakfast! The sausages were very filling.

8:00am

The next four hours was time to learn about different bills and policies. I even got a special shoutout for the flyers I made!

11:00am

We got to build our own sandwich for lunch. I should have chosen a different type of bread – it was hard to fit everything on there!

12:00pm

Passed by the State Capitol Building on the way to the Swing Space!

5:00pm

Reception at the California Museum. The venue was pretty cool – we had access to the first floor of the museum, and I enjoyed the exhibits!

7:00pm

I picked up my bags at the hotel and made my way to the airport. There was no line at TSA! I was shocked. I also got to grab a quick bite at Escape Lounges – it is so nice when you’re traveling with someone with Priority Pass!

8:15pm

I was so excited to learn that I get the entire row to myself on this flight! The flight attendant had a lot of energy and a good sense of humor.

10:15pm

Delta was a short walk from the Uber pick-up lot. I wasn’t able to call an Uber until I got close to the lot, but luckily, I didn’t have to wait too long for my ride. As we exited the lot, the road was closed so we had to drive through part of the horseshoe again. Good thing the driver tried to find the quickest exit.

That’s a wrap on Sacramento! It was great seeing some familiar faces and having another memorable experience this year.
