Mmm…sushi. I love eating sushi. Sushi Gen is located in Little Tokyo, and I was lucky enough to try it a few times. There is a small parking lot (although it can be a bit expensive) and it’s right across from Tea Master Matcha Cafe and Green Tea Shop! There’s always a line for Sushi Gen, usually around a 20-45 minute wait.
Appetizers
Karaage – I always like to get the karaage as an appetizer, which comes in four pieces. It might not be written on the menu, but if you ask for it, they’ll have it!

Entree
Chirashi – The chirashi is my go-to since you get to try different kinds of fish with rice. When I had this for the first time, there was so much fish on top that I couldn’t decide what to eat first and how to get to the rice on the bottom! The chirashi also comes with miso soup.

Premium Chirashi – Mmm…look at that uni! Although this tasted great, I would be satisfied with the regular chirashi.

Salmon Dinner – Pick between teriyaki, shio, or butter. Includes rice. Choice of sashimi appetizer or tempura appetizer. This is a pretty big portion, especially with that bowl of rice! It’s nice that it comes with a sashimi appetizer, but I would prefer to get the chirashi or just sashimi.

Sashimi Lunch – Includes rice. How have I been missing out on this the entire time? This sashimi lunch set was so good. This comes with miso soup, tofu, and pickled veggies. I really liked the tofu and the sauce it came with. I might actually like the sashimi lunch set more than the chirashi! My only complaint would be that it does not come with ginger. Maybe I can ask for it next time, and also ask for a smaller bowl of rice!

I definitely want to visit again and try their omakase. I have seen others order nigiri a la carte and the cost seems to add up pretty quickly and you might not be full after. However, the sets or bowls are great if you’re looking for a tasty and filling meal! Just make sure to set aside enough time for waiting in line.
