Trekking Along: Eaton Canyon Trail

First hike of the year? Eaton Canyon Trail!

This trail was pretty fun with the streams crossings. We started the hike around 3pm in the afternoon, which was definitely not the best idea since it was 87 degrees outside! You start off on the dirt trail, and there really wasn’t that much shade in the beginning. The heat made it much worse, but we managed to survive.

As we got closer to the middle of the hike, things finally got more interesting – we spotted water! There were quite a few streams we had to cross and more rocks we had to climb to get past. While the streams looked very refreshing, I didn’t want to get my shoes wet. I stepped on the rocks and logs to get by, jumping and running to help balance myself to reach the other side before falling off. It was like a puzzle as I stood on the first rock thinking about where to step next! I managed to make it through all the streams except one without getting wet, and that was because I didn’t realize the stream was wider than I thought! My shoe dried out really quickly though.

We walked for quite a long time and just kept wondering, where is this waterfall? “Another half mile and we’ll be there,” was what I was told, but it ended up being another half mile after another. Finally, after who knows how many half miles, someone on their way back said, “It’s just around the corner!” I’ll believe it when I see it, I thought. This guy was not lying.

Although the waterfall was nice, crossing the streams to get there was the most enjoyable part. It took around an hour and 10 minutes to get to the waterfall, including stopping for photos on the way. We took a nice long break at the waterfall and the way out was much quicker and easier. The entire trail came out to be about three hours. We even saw the moon on the way out!

Would I go again? Maybe if it wasn’t so hot!
