Halloween means it’s time to see pumpkins everywhere! I painted my very first pumpkin this year and of course, I had to paint something related to the popular Netflix series, Squid Game.
I started by choosing my pumpkin. I went for one that wasn’t too tall and not too small.
I tried sketching my design with pencil first, but it didn’t work out too well. It was way too difficult to see the lines. I ended up only drawing the outline of the characters I wanted as dark as possible, then moved on to choose my paint colors. I only needed four: red, white, black, and sky blue.
I mixed the red and white paint together to get a lighter red for the characters’ suits. I started by painting the suits, then added in the mask, gloves, and shoes with black paint. For the circle, triangle, and square, I used white. The mask looked pretty plain without showing the lines under the shape, so I mixed the black with just a bit of white to draw in the details for the masks.
While I did get sky blue paint, I didn’t even think about painting the background sky blue! After finishing the three characters, the pumpkin looked pretty plain and that was when I thought, hm…I should paint some clouds! I mixed the sky blue with just a bit of black for a darker sky blue. The pumpkin still looked plain.
It finally occurred to me that I can paint the whole pumpkin sky blue. It should’ve been the first thing I did so I didn’t have to paint around my characters and clouds, but I guess I’ll know for next time.
In the biggest blank spot, I added 456 in white. Here are the results:
To finish up my pumpkin, I added a few specks of red as the finishing touch. What’s Squid Game without a bit of blood?
I thought my first painted pumpkin turned out pretty well, so I decided to take it on a little photoshoot!
Happy Halloween!
