I have heard so many good things about Sushi Kisen, and I finally got to try it! I went to Sushi Kisen for lunch on a Saturday. There is a parking lot, so parking was pretty easy. Since people have said that this place does get busy sometimes, I planned my schedule to get there right when they opened so there was no wait at all.
There are two main seating areas – the counter seats and the tables. We were not doing the omakase, so we were seated at a table. There was just the right amount of space between the other tables. Once seated, we were handed a long, thin menu. There is a section titled “How to Eat Sushi: Sushi Etiquette” which was very cool! The list, which also had a drawing to go with it, included:
- Please do not put soy sauce on the rice side.
- Please do not chew off your sushi.
- Please do not mix wasabi and soy sauce.
- Please do not break down your sushi.
- Please do not cut your sushi.
- Please do not stick chopsticks into rice bowl.
- Please do not pass any food from one set of chopsticks to another or touch chopsticks with chopsticks.
We ordered the Deluxe Sushi Lunch and the Deluxe Chirashi Lunch. Both came with appetizers and miso soup!
The Deluxe Sushi Lunch and Deluxe Chirashi Lunch arrived at the same time. The Deluxe Sushi Lunch came with 15 pieces of sushi. Looking at the sushi lunch and chirashi bowl side by side, the chirashi bowl looked extra good – to the point that we were fighting over who gets to have the chirashi bowl!
The Deluxe Chirashi Lunch had a variety of fresh seafood, and with the rice on the bottom, it was very filling. I purposely did not eat breakfast for this meal, and even then, I almost couldn’t finish the bowl. I was not expecting there to be so much uni and ikura in the bowl too! I noticed that there was no salmon sashimi included, which I was half surprised, half not surprised about, but I still really enjoyed the fish selection. For the same price as the Deluxe Sushi Lunch ($35), I would prefer the chirashi bowl over the sushi lunch.
Overall, this was a very satisfying meal. I am glad I finally got to try Sushi Kisen – I would come back again!
