Sage Bistro

I wasn’t originally planning to go to Sage Bistro for dinner, but the restaurant down the street had such a long line I decided to check this place out instead! I haven’t been to Sage Bistro before, but have heard good things about it so I was excited to try it!

Parking was pretty easy – there’s a small lot in the back, and plenty of street parking too. You can enter the restaurant from the front and the back. We were seated pretty quickly. The owner handed us the menu. There is a decent amount of options on the menu, with starters, salads, sides, soup, and a list of entrees. I liked how there is a picture for some of the items on the back too!

For sides, we got the Mac N’ Cheese, Sauteed Mushrooms, and Garlic Bread. The Mac N’ Cheese was so good. I loved the cheesiness and the firmness of the pasta – I could’ve eaten the whole thing by myself! The Sauteed Mushrooms and Garlic Bread were both great choices as well. The flavor was great! The food came out so fast I wish it actually came out slower so that I could enjoy every bite without being scared the other food would get cold.

For our entrees, we got:

Duck Breast – port and truffle balsamic reduction sauce served with mashed potatoes and fresh vegetables
New Zealand Lamb Chops – served with potatoes and sauteed carrots with chimichurri sauce
Braised Pork Chop – braised pork chop in creamy mushroom sauce served with fresh vegetables and your choice of mashed potato or steamed rice

Between the Duck Breast and New Zealand Lamb Chops, it’s hard to say which one was my favorite. Both were delicious, but if I had to choose one, it’d be the Duck Breast. It’s definitely not something you usually see on a restaurant’s menu, so it was very unique to get to try it. The lamb chops were very juicy and easy to eat. The Braised Pork Chop was decent, but not the way I typically like my pork cooked. The meat was very soft and the rice felt a bit harder than usual. The creamy mushroom sauce eaten with rice was an interesting combination.

The owner was very friendly. She kept coming over to chat with us, and we got to learn so much about her! She told us that we are lucky that we got to eat here because the restaurant is not open every day – it depends on if the chef is in the mood to cook that day! Some customers would even call before coming to confirm if they are open. The husband and wife both continue running the restaurant because the customers love their food and can’t find it anywhere else.

Test your luck or call ahead to try this restaurant! Next time, I’d want to order the Mac N’ Cheese and Duck Breast dishes for myself!
