Jina Bakes

Pastries are not something I think about often, but when I saw the menu at Jina Bakes, I knew I wanted to check it out! Located in Japantown in San Francisco, this small bakery has Japanese and Korean inspired pastries and is conveniently located a short walk from St. Dominic’s, where I was visiting!

There was a short line when I arrived around 1pm, and only a few people were allowed inside at the same time. A large crowd showed up right after me. I was not too hungry and I wanted to save some room for lunch, so sadly, I was not able to order everything I wanted to try on the menu. The pastries were lined up behind the glass display, and the lady behind the counter took my order.

I ordered a Hojicha Cream Puff and a Hojicha Latte, and also got to try the Matcha Cream Puff and Black Sesame Cream Puff. There is no seating inside the bakery, so after I got my order (I had to wait for the Hojicha Latte), I found a seat outside to eat my pastries.

The cream puffs had so much creamy filling on the inside! I thought the Hojicha Cream Puff would be my favorite, but I actually liked the Matcha Cream Puff most, followed by the Hojicha and then the Black Sesame Cream Puff. I think I would have enjoyed everything a bit more if I had found a table to eat at instead, but everything was still delicious!

Items I want to try next time:

  • Kalbijjim Croissant
  • Injeolmi Croissant
  • Matcha Butter Mochi

It would have been a smart idea to get some of their Matcha Butter Mochi to-go since it was already pre-packaged, but I guess I’ll just have to go back again to try it along with the croissants!
