I recently tried a new place to satisfy my sushi cravings! Izakaya Osen is located in Silverlake, with a small valet parking lot but delicious food.
To start off the meal, I had the Garlic Soy Edamame, which was very flavorful!
Garlic Soy Edamame – sauteed with garlic sauce.
Next were the main courses:
Omakase Bowl – Chef’s choice of chopped and mixed seasonal fish, sea urchin, blue crab, salmon roe, and sesame oil over sushi rice. Served with a side of organic kajime nori (sea trumpet seaweed). The organic kajime nori was very unique! I’ve never had anything like it. Each piece was very thin and the texture reminded me of soft and delicate fabric.
Blue Crab Uni Bowl – blue crab, sea urchin, caviar and sesame oil over sushi rice. The generous amount of blue crab was so satisfying!
Beef Tan Tan Nabe – Beef brisket, creamy pork broth, perilla seeds, veggies, chili oil, shiitake mushroom, and tofu with udon. Although I came for the sushi, the Beef Tan Tan Nabe was probably my favorite. The soup was so good and creamy – it was amazing!
Other items:
Shigoku Oyster – ponzu jelly, shiso and yuzu powder. The oysters were on the smaller side, but they were tasty and so fresh!
Kushiyaki – Jidori Negima (chicken thigh with scallions), Beef Tongue, Pork Belly. My other favorite part of the meal was the Kushiyaki, especially the Jidori Negima. The chicken thigh was cooked perfectly which really surprised me! Next was the Beef Tongue, then the Pork Belly. Definitely order this with your other dishes if you stop by Izakaya Osen!
