It’s The Weekend! Find Me In San Jose

It’s time for a long weekend in San Jose! Although it was sunny, hot, and full of pollen, it was an amazing weekend.

Day 1: Dinner & Mario Kart

The weekend started with a delicious dinner menu:

The KBBQ Short Ribs and Teriyaki Chicken were so delicious. The kimchi was a great addition, and I couldn’t stop getting more rice because the teriyaki chicken was so good! The cocktail and affogato came with fresh mint leaves that were delivered straight from the garden!

After dinner, it was time for Mario Kart at 150cc. Go Toadette!

Day 2: Cappuccinos, Pickleball, & Camel Up!

A great day begins with a nice cup of cappuccino (two, actually) and pastries – a whole assortment of pastries from Porto’s Bakery and Kaya Bakery! The pastries from Kaya Bakery had a lot of Asian flavors like the Thai Tea Croissant, Pandan Pina Colada Croissant Bun, and Mango Sago Croissant Bun! My favorite was the Thai Tea Croissant.

Lunch was a build-your-own-burger bar! There were two grilled cheese patty options: prime beef patties and wagyu beef patties. I tried both! I added tomatoes, onions, spinach, and ketchup to my sandwich and it was yummy. As sides, there were chips flown in from Texas and shrimp chips.

It was time to work off those burgers, so we went to play pickleball! We had to set up our own net so we only had one court to play on, but luckily there was shade under a big tree when we weren’t playing. I finally had time to put my pickleball sticker on my new bottle and carry it around with the new pickleball pin on my bag too!

After pickleball, we played some cornhole before dinner! We ordered dinner from Dan Izakaya. I got the Bara Chirashi and Seafood Okonomiyaki. The portions were bigger than I had expected!

Post-dinner is game time: Camel Up! This is my first time playing (and hearing about) this game, and it was quite interesting! Who knew it could be so intense betting on camels? My favorite part was when I placed my bets on the yellow camel and ended up winning with 35 coins! Camelll Up!

Day 3: Tennis & Food

It’s 7am, which means it’s time for tennis! I was lucky enough to get a private lesson with the best tennis player, and wow there is still so much to learn!

After the workout, it was cappuccino time! I was able to enjoy a cup of cappuccino before heading out for breakfast at Daily Bagel Cafe in Fremont. Of course, I ordered the Roast Beef Croissant and it was as good as I remembered! What a satisfying breakfast to be sharing with my friend as we just stood outside eating in the parking lot. Good food with good friends, that’s the best!

For lunch, we headed to Shepherd & Sims in Los Gatos. There were so many good options, but I decided to go for the Ahi Tuna Tostada, Steak Salad, and Steamed Curry Mussels.

Ahi Tuna Tostada – salsa macha, smashed avocado, sesame seeds, blue corn tortilla
Steak Salad – roasted brussels sprouts, red wine vinaigrette, feta cheese, red onions, cilantro crema, roasted hazelnuts, barley
Steamed Curry Mussels – garlic, shallots, white wine, toasted levain

My favorite was the Steamed Curry Mussels. The curry was delicious and the bread dipped in the curry was just perfect! The Ahi Tuna Tostada was another solid choice, but also quite expensive.

After stopping at Whole Foods to buy some ice cream for dessert later and going to Mass at the San Jose Chinese Catholic Mission, we went to San Pedro Square Market! The place looked vaguely familiar, and turns out, I had actually visited this place a few years ago! It has definitely changed a lot, and was a lot more crowded this time.

We only got a light snack at San Pedro Square Market, so for dinner we got Taco Bell! It was my first time having Taco Bell and I was very excited to try what my friends love so much.

We ordered a few different things – the Chalupa Supreme, Nacho Cheese Doritos Locos Taco Supreme, and Mexican Pizza! My favorite was the Chalupa Supreme with Hot Sauce! I can’t believe I’ve been missing out on this my whole life.

Post-dinner activity is pickleball! We played until the lights turned off, then had ice cream with the ice cream man. The flavors of the day were Roasted Strawberry and Mascarpone & Berries. I really liked the Mascarpone & Berries!

Day 4: Morning Coffee & Lunch

The joy of sleeping until 9:30am and waking up to a nice cup of cappuccino. I got to enjoy my last cup of cappuccino for the weekend before heading to Sushirrito for lunch! I’ve never had Sushirrito, but have heard good things about the Salmon Samba so I decided to give it a try!

Salmon Samba – teriyaki baked salmon, tempura asparagus, pickled cucumbers, green leaf lettuce, pumpkin seeds, Japanese 7-spice sushi rice, Sushirrito nori, avocado spread

What a great way to end the long weekend!
