With only one full day in Los Angeles, how many things can I do?
Friday Evening
8:30pm
Hello, LAX! After a long wait going through customs, it’s already almost 11pm – but it’s never too late for In-N-Out!
11:15pm
It’s time for In-N-Out! Luckily, the one by the airport is open until 1:30am. One cheeseburger with raw onions plus an order of fries please! Although it was packed, my food didn’t take too long.
Saturday
10:00am
How many trips to the bank does it take to resolve an issue? At least three.
11:30am
Lunch time at Phở Gà Bắc Ninh! Of course, I had to get their Phở Gà. I also tried their Nữa Con Gà, Bánh Cuốn Tôm Thịt, and Bún Chả Hà Nội. Delicious!
Phở Gà – chicken noodle soup (boneless)
Nữa Con Gà – half steamed chicken
Bánh Cuốn Tôm Thịt – pork, shrimp, chayote, wood ear mushroom in rice noodle wrap with meat loaf
Bún Chả Hà Nội – Hà Nội style chargrilled pork belly and pork patty with vermicelli noodles
3:00pm
After another trip to the bank, we are now at Grand Central Market! The Lobster Roll from Broad Street Oyster Co. was so good I wish I got another one. We also stopped by the famous Tacos Tumbras a Tomas for some cheap and tasty tacos!
3:30pm
Although I have seen and heard about Angels Flight Railway many, many times, I have never been on it. Today was the day. It is $1 each way, but if you have a Metro TAP Card, you get a $0.50 discount! The ride was very short, but definitely cool to say that I’ve finally ridden it.
3:45pm
A few steps away is the Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA). Admission is free, and there were a few interesting things to see. There are a few different areas inside the museum, so even if one area doesn’t appeal to you, you might find something cool in another area!
4:30pm
Next stop: Los Angeles Public Library. Head to the second floor and admire the beautiful ceiling!
4:45pm
The Last Bookstore has some nice spots for photos. It is a bit hidden, but we found them!
5:30pm
Time to head to Little Tokyo! We stopped at Tea Master Matcha Cafe and Green Tea Shop for a Matcha Soft Serve and Matcha Latte. I loved the soft serve! Sadly, the Matcha Latte was not as good as I last remembered it, so maybe I’ll skip it next time.
5:40pm
Just across the street was Angel City Brewery. We ordered a custom flight:
Boysenberry Shortbread Ale – Made for Knotts Berry Farm Boysenberry Fest, this dark red ale is made with boysenberries & graham crackers, along with biscuit & honey malt giving it a tart & cookie-like flavor (Malty) – I liked this one most!
45 RPM German Amber – Like something out of a hipster’s vinyl collection, this German Amber Ale is so cool you probably haven’t heard of it. Crisp, malty, and smooth (Malty)
Angel City IPA – West Coast IPA full of hops and balanced with a hefty malt backbone (Hoppy)
Guavocado Ale – Our tropical twist on our classic avocado ale. Kolsch-style ale, made using real California avocados, lime, and cilantro. Fruity, creamy, and refreshing (Light) – Definitely not a fan of this one. It reminded me of tacos.
Little Tokyo Super Dry – A bright, golden-hued homage to our DTLA neighbors. Crisp and refreshing, stylized like a rice lager with a “super dry” finish (Light) – I wish I had sushi to eat with this one.
6:15pm
Since the Shohei Ohtani mural was close by, we went to check it out too!
8:15pm
To wrap up the day, we went to Alice’s Kitchen for dinner. Loved their Jumbo HK Style Pineapple Bun!
It was a short trip, but we were still able to fit in so many activities. Until next time!
