HomeState (Atwater Village)

I recently learned about HomeState, a restaurant serving Texas-style tacos, with house-made flour tortillas! I decided to check out the Atwater Village location. This location has a nice seating area, both indoors and outdoors, and it can fit large groups as well (if you combine some tables). Order at the counter and grab a table!

I decided to get two tacos with Homestate’s flour tortillas:

Fort Worth – spicy achiote chicken, crispy bacon, lettuce, pico de gallo, pickled jalapeños, tomatillo ranch
Tijuana Panther – shredded brisket, queso, potatoes, pico de gallo

Both of my tacos tasted good! I would have preferred my tacos to not be wrapped in aluminum foil since I was eating there, but the wrapping made it easy to identify which taco is which. Unfortunately, I did not enjoy the tortilla as much as I expected. The temperature was just warm which I was confused about since I thought these would have been made fresh from the kitchen. Since the tacos were wrapped in foil, it was also not the most presentable when I opened it up! I was a bit disappointed when I saw how they looked like, but otherwise, the meat and the toppings in both tacos were pretty good. The Tijuana Panther taco was definitely heavier than the Fort Worth taco, so I was glad I started with the Fort Worth taco. I should have grabbed a fork for my Tijuana Panther taco, since the meat was on one side of the taco more too.

I also tried their Cookie Milk Iced Coffee. I was expecting there to be a darker coffee color, but the drink looked pretty light. I couldn’t really taste any chocolate chip cookie flavor, but I did like how the drink was not sweet.

This is a pretty nice spot if you want to grab some tacos and hang out with friends. I’d give it another try and check out their migas and eats next time!
