It’s lunch time! Today’s lunch is at Hama Sushi in Little Tokyo. This is my first time going to Hama Sushi and I have heard that there is usually a wait, so I made sure to go early!
My friends and I were first in line. The restaurant was very small, with a small area with tables and another area for the bar. We had a party of five, so we were seated at a table instead of at the bar, which is reserved for parties of up to two or three. The table was a bit small for five, but we were able to squeeze and fit. We were given a menu, which had sashimi, soup, salad, appetizers, and sushi combinations. There is also a good selection of nigiri and a few hand rolls.
My friends and I decided to share an order of salmon sashimi and special tuna sashimi. I also ordered the Sweet Shrimp, Spanish Mackerel, and Scallop Nigiri, along with a Soft Shell Crab Hand Roll. The nigiri that our table ordered all came on the same plate, and we also had a big plate of ginger and wasabi.
Both the salmon and tuna sashimi were delicious! The tuna melted in our mouths and was very fatty. We wish we got another order of the tuna sashimi!
The Sweet Shrimp, Spanish Mackerel, and Scallop Nigiri were all a great choice. It was hard to decide whether the Sweet Shrimp or the Scallop was my favorite! With the sweet shrimp, we had the option of having the head fried or served in soup. Since we had four orders of the Sweet Shrimp Nigiri, we ordered two of each option. I definitely liked the fried version much more!
The last item I ordered was the Soft Shell Crab Roll. You can either get it as a hand roll or cut, but if you do a hand roll, your table needs to order two orders of it. I enjoyed eating this hand roll, but I do want to try the Salmon Skin Hand Roll next time – my friend ordered that one and it looked really good!
I was satisfied with my meal, and I can’t wait to go to Hama Sushi again to try some of the other items on their menu. Next time, I’ll make sure to go with a smaller party to try and get seated at the bar!
