Sushi in Sacramento? Why would I ever think of eating sushi in Sacramento? Well, I did anyway and it was definitely one of the highlights of my day. My friend recommended a place called Chef Frank Japanese Cuisine, a short 11 minute drive from Downtown Sacramento. When I first heard the name of the restaurant, I wasn’t quite sure I would want to get sushi here, but after looking at the reviews and photos, I decided to give it a try.
The restaurant was not that busy at 6pm, so I was able to get a table right away. The menu was very colorful and had an interesting font – something that I was not expecting at a Japanese restaurant. It actually took some time for me to decide on what to order – do I order a Chirashi Don? The Premium Nigiri Mix? Their Mystery Box? What should I get?
Appetizer
Daily Oysters – half dozen oysters with ponzu, dashi jelly. Honestly, it’s been so long since I’ve had raw oysters I would be lying if I said I wasn’t scared of getting a stomachache after. However, these oysters were so fresh and delicious! The dashi jelly was also very unique – I’d get this again!

Nigiri
Ama Ebi | Sweet Shrimp – I loved the texture and freshness of the ama ebi!

Sake Toro | Salmon Belly – Mmm…salmon belly! I really liked this salmon belly. The only thing I wasn’t quite sure of was the chili oil, which I wasn’t a huge fan of!

Uni – The uni was very fresh but also very pricey! It was good to try it at least once.

Hotate | Scallop – The scallops were so big! I would definitely get this again. There’s something about biting into such thick and delicious scallops that makes it so satisfying.

O-Toro | Fatty Tuna – This was my absolute favorite. I was so happy I ended with the o-toro.

Sushi Roll
Super Star Roll – salmon, cucumber, avocado, chu-toro, truffles mushroom sauce & micro mix. This roll was truly a superstar! If you like truffle, give this roll a try. As you bring the piece closer to your mouth, you can already smell the truffle through your nose. I also liked the fish choice in the roll, and the micro mix was a nice finish.

Overall, this was a great meal. I’d love to come again to try the other items on the menu! They also have omakase, but maybe next time I’ll check out their Mystery Box or Chirashi Don first. The Premium Nigiri Mix sounds really good too. Looking forward to another trip to Sacramento!
