It’s Napa day! My friend had found a brunch spot for us, right by Nicholson Ranch – where we were going to have wine tasting. We arrived at Boon Fly Cafe at around 12:30pm, and the first thing I noticed was the vibrant building color followed immediately by the short stop sign when we turned into the parking lot. The stop sign was really short.
We parked the car and walked toward the restaurant. The staff told us there is going to be a 45 minute wait. Forty-five minutes! That’s such a long time! We decided to wait. We played by the swing bench outside while we waited, swinging back and forth, and back and forth. After only twenty minutes, they called us in.
We were seated in the corner, where there was booth seating for three of us and a chair for one of us. It was a very interesting setup and felt a bit tight. We each ordered a main and got a flatbread to share.
Breakfast Burrito – flour tortilla, cheese blend, crispy hash browns, chorizo, scrambled eggs, sour cream, pico de gallo, covered with chipotle salsa – Mmmm this breakfast burrito was very good! It was huge – I definitely would not be able to finish a full burrito by myself, but I am glad I got to have a few bites of this! I really liked the sauce and filling in this burrito.
Corned Beef Hash – house-made corned beef, crispy hash browns, spinach, grilled onions, poached eggs, jalapeno hollandaise – Yum! I loved this corned beef hash. I would get this next time I come if someone would split half with me! The poached eggs combined with the corned beef and other ingredients was delicious, but it really is a lot of corned beef in one sitting!
Reuben Sandwich – corned beef, swiss cheese, Napa Smith Brewery sauerkraut, thousand island dressing, rye bread – This is what I ordered for myself. The sandwich was very satisfying. Every bite was a combination of the crispy bread followed by the tender corned beef and flavorful sauerkraut and cheese. Complete each bite with a slice of pickle and a few fries and then repeat. The fries were so good I could snack on them the whole day and still want more! I shared half my sandwich and some fries to make room to try the other dishes. This sandwich was a great choice!
Boon Fly Chicken & Waffle – Mary’s free range chicken, malt waffle, maple syrup, whipped brown butter – I only tried a bite of the chicken, but it was crispy and juicy!
Ohlone Smoked Salmon Flatbread $28 – fromage blanc, red onion, parmesan, lemon creme fraiche – This was my favorite dish, followed by the Corned Beef Hash and Reuben Sandwich. I do wish there was a little bit more red onion. This is a great dish to share because it’ll definitely be difficult to eat this all by yourself. Next time I would want to try this with capers!
This was a satisfying meal. The portions here are big, so if you’re going with a group of friends, see if they want to split with you so you can try more items! This is a great option for brunch, so make sure to stop by if you’re in the area!
