Bella Pita (Westwood)

Bella Pita is one of my favorite spots (ever) to eat at, and just as I was about to start writing this post, I learned that it is now permanently closed…I had literally just gone a few weeks ago. Bella Pita is a small and casual Mediterranean restaurant, conveniently located in Westwood right by UCLA. There is a condiments bar for you to customize your order and just a few seats to eat.

The pita is fresh made. My favorite is the Basterma Wowshi, with thin slices of dry cured beef and cheese. The Koftah Wowshi, which has ground beef, onions, parsley, and herbs and spices, is also good, but the cheese in the Basterma Wowshi makes the pita sandwich taste extra good.

This last time that I went, I walked in at 10:45pm (it closes at 11pm). Originally, I was worried it would be closed by the time we arrived, but luckily, the doors were still open. There were quite a few options on the menu, but all I wanted was my favorite wowshi, so we ordered the Basterma Wowshi. We waited a few minutes for our order to be made, and then the beautiful wowshi was ready.

Basterma Wowshi $14.71

Each order comes with two halves, and usually, one is enough for me. At a glance, it looks like it won’t be filling, but wait until you add in the condiments. First, you open up your wowshi so you have the space to add in your condiments. Be careful, it’s hot! Then, walk over to the condiments bar. I like to add in lettuce, cucumbers, tomatoes, red onions, and banana peppers. Finally, add the white sauce.

My mouth is watering thinking about this wowshi. It was so delicious! I was already thinking about how to add on my condiments the next time I go as I ate it, but unfortunately, it looks like that chance will not come. I am very glad that I did get to eat it one last time before it closed. I hope they can reopen at another location so I can eat this delicious wowshi and taste this flavor again!
