An Hour Of Lost Sleep

I’ve always looked forward to Daylight Savings when I was a kid. It was the day where we get to climb up a chair to change all the clocks in the house and wonder how many people will show up late to church the next day. I also get to pull the thing on the side of my watch and turn it until the minute hand takes me to the correct hour.

I remember when the teachers at school would give us a piece of paper the Friday before to remind us and our parents to change our clocks. Everyone at school talked about it – it was such a special day. We all complained about losing an hour of sleep, but secretly, we were all so excited for it.

Does the excitement still hold now that I’m older? Indeed it does. It’s a bit different with nobody reminding you to change your clock, but with phones adjusting the time automatically, people don’t have to worry about showing up late the next morning. I’m excited to see a different sky when I wake up in the morning and more sunlight later in the evening!
