All Work, No Play

Work, work, and…more work. Sigh.

Another task does not mean more work if you don’t think of it as work. It can be a learning opportunity, a new challenge, or even just a break from whatever else you are working on. The way you think of the task makes such a difference, and it also affects the people you are working with to complete the task. If it’s a task that you don’t even want to do…well, why did you accept the job to begin with?

“Work is work,” is what you often hear coming out of people’s mouths. They drag their feet to work every morning and go through their day not enjoying what they are doing. If they’re just working by themselves, it doesn’t really matter much to anyone else, but when they are working with a team, it just brings down the whole team’s morale – especially if they are the one leading the task.

No matter how much positive energy the rest of the team brings, if the leader gives off the vibe that they dread working on the task, the fire within the team will eventually burn out and it becomes miserable for them as well.

Instead of treating every task like work, have some fun with it! Enjoy the process and think about the positive impacts it will have on the community in the long run or the lessons you will learn from doing this task. Ultimately, your attitude makes a huge difference and can even bring some joy and fun to everyone else.
