Vox Kitchen (Fountain Valley)

Vox Kitchen is part of Kei Concepts, serving fusion dishes inspired by the Chifa culinary movement. So many of my friends have told me about how delicious this place is, and I finally got to try it! Once we were seated, we scanned the QR code on the table to see the menu. The dishes were family-style, so we decided to each order a dish to share along with a few appetizers for the table. This was perfect, because this meant I can try more dishes!

Small Plates

Bacon Brussels Sprouts – brussels sprouts, bacon, sweet pork sung, egg – This was such an interesting and tasty combination! I especially loved the egg that was hidden inside.
Garlic Chicken Wings – crispy chicken wings, pressed garlic, black pepper – The flavor of these crispy chicken wings was delicious. I cleaned all the meat off the bone. Make sure to also dip it in some of the sauce!
Spicy Shrimp Wontons – homemade shrimp wontons, spicy sauce, scallions

My favorite small plate was the brussels sprouts, closely followed by the chicken wings. Other small plates that I would want to try next time include the Calamari, Seafood Ceviche, Vox Pear Salad, and Truffle Fries.

Entrees

Saltado Shaken Fries (House-Special) – filet mignon, steak fries, red onions, tomatoes, aji sauce, rice pilaf – This dish was pretty good, although it is not something I would order next time. The filet mignon was very hard to chew on. I did like the steak fries and the red onions and aji sauce that came with this dish though!
Mushroom Garlic Noodle – mushroom, organic wheat noodles, butter, garlic, parmesan cheese, secret sauce, scallions – There was so much mushroom in this dish! I liked the noodles and the mushrooms.
Rib Bone Soup – 4-hour braised bone-in short ribs, potatoes, glass noodles, mushrooms, scallions, slow-poached egg – The rib bone soup also came with some yummy pickled cucumbers on the side. I think this was good to try once, but I’ll order something else instead next time.
Pork Jowl Chifa Fried Rice – pork jowl, scrambled eggs, scallions, sesame oil, fried egg, aji sauce – This was my favorite entree! I loved the fried rice and the pork jowl, and the fried egg was a great addition to the dish. Try the dish without the sauce first and see how you like it!
Mushroom & Rib-Eye Stir Fry – shiitake mushrooms, rib-eye bits, soy beurre blanc, scallions, rice pilaf – This was my second favorite entree. I really liked the mushroom and rib-eye pairing, and the sauce gave it an extra flavor boost.

All of the entrees that we ordered were tasty, but if you use too much of the sauce (which came with almost all our dishes), the different dishes might start tasting very similar. I would definitely recommend trying out Vox Kitchen with a larger party (at least 3-4 people) so you can try more items! My party had 6 people, so we tried to order something from each of the different categories.

Drinks

Hojicha Iced Tea – roasted green tea, hojicha infused foam – When hojicha is on the menu, there’s no way I can say no to that! The hojicha infused foam was pretty thick, so if you are looking for something that’s a little bit heavier, give this a try!
Lychee Lemonade – fresh lychee, lemonade, garnish with lychee balls and mint – Another popular drink at our table was the Lychee Lemonade, which comes with free refills! Although I did not get to try this drink, it looked very refreshing and I would want to try this next time!

Overall, I was pretty satisfied with this meal. Food was good, portions were good, and the price was not as expensive as I thought it would be! The small plates got me very excited for the entrees and I would definitely order some of them again and try the other ones as well. Now that I know which dish I like most, I’m ready to go back for more!
