6+ Back-To-School Supplies For Your Backpack

My favorite type of shopping? Back-to-school shopping. The end of summer is when stores start having back-to-school sales, and the weekly ads are what I looked forward to this time of the year. It’s quite a task comparing the prices between the stores and calculating which store has the better deal, but it’s even more important to make sure you wake up early on the weekends to grab the items before they sell out – you don’t want to miss out on a good deal!

With the school year starting up again, what’s on your supplies list? Here’s the top 6 items I carry in my backpack!

  1. Planner – The ideal planner has both monthly and weekly pages. The main activities or events can be written in the monthly pages, and your tasks and deadlines can be written in the weekly pages.
  2. Notebooks and Composition Books – It’s not very often that I actually use up every page of a notebook, but I still like to have one notebook per subject. Make sure to get the college-ruled notebooks and use a different color for each subject! If you’re looking for something smaller and don’t mind flipping through pages more often, you can use composition books instead.
  3. Lined Paper and Graph Paper – Lined paper must also be college-ruled! Don’t forget to look out for the texture of the paper too – you don’t want your sharp pencil to poke a hole through the paper.
  4. Pens – I like to have 2 black, 2 blue, 2 red, and 1 green pen. The extras are just in case someone needs to borrow a pen, but also because I separate my pens into two different pockets in my backpack!
  5. Pencils – Although most people may be using lead pencils these days, it’s always good to keep some extra #2 pencils too! I usually carry at least two lead pencils, one sharpened #2 pencil, and one dull #2 pencil. It can be risky using a sharp #2 pencil because you never know if it’ll break, and that’s when the dull pencil comes in handy! (You can also lend your dull pencil to your classmate who has a history of not returning pencils.)
  6. Eraser – Would you be surprised if I carried two erasers? One stick eraser for smaller mistakes, and one block eraser for bigger mistakes!

Other Important Items to Carry:

  • Ruler  – A clear plastic ruler lets you see what’s underneath the ruler as you draw your line. How else will you know where to start and stop your line?
  • Binder or Folder – Handouts are not the same size as your notebooks, so make sure to have a binder or folder to hold them so your papers don’t get bent!
  • Calculator – A good calculator is all you need for math (in addition to your brain, of course!).
  • White-Out – If you don’t want to be crossing things off when you make mistakes with a pen, make sure to bring white-out with you!
  • Highlighter – A yellow highlighter should be enough unless it’s a complicated subject!
  • Scissors, Tape, Mini Stapler – While your classroom might have these, it’s just not the same having your own and being able to just easily pull it out from your backpack.
  • USB Flash Drive – Carry an empty USB flash drive with you just in case you need to save or transfer any files!
  • Band Aid – For a small paper cut, you probably won’t ask your teacher for a band aid – and that’s why you carry your own!

Items to Keep at Your Desk or at Home:

  • Index Cards
  • Post-Its
  • Color Pencils and Markers
  • Glue Stick
  • Paperclips

Could this be why my backpack is always so heavy? What else should I add to my list?
